Maggie Murphy joined the Golden Flashes in the summer of 2021 as the women's golf assistant coach.
Coach Murphy's time in Kent got off to a great start as the team secured a 23rd consecutive Mid-American Conference title in 2022, sweeping MAC Golfer of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors, as well securing three spots on the All-MAC first team two All-MAC second team.
Murphy came to Kent State after a successful run at South Dakota State from 2017 through 2021 where she served as the assistant coach for the Jackrabbits' men's and women's golf programs. During her time in Brookings, the Jackrabbits' men's and women's golf teams combined for eight individual wins, six team wins, four All-Summit League first and second team golfers and the first All-American and NCAA qualifier in SDSU women's golf history.
Those teams also shined academically. Seven women's golfers earned a spot on the Golf Coaches' Association Academic All-America Scholar Team and three earned Academic All-America status. 23 golfers were named to the Summit League's Academic Honor Roll and 13 earned a spot on the Summit League's Commissioner's List.
Murphy was an All-American scholar herself at New Mexico State University earning the honor each year from 2007-2010. Murphy competed in 35 events while at New Mexico State and earned her degree in community health from New Mexico State. She was the 2007 South Dakota Women's Amateur Champion. She also took home the 2010 and 2019 South Dakota Women's Match Play Championships. She pursued professional golf status on the LPGA tour from 2010-2012 and competed in the 2016 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur.
