Named interim head coach in January 2022, Casey Riedel joined the Kent State women's volleyball staff as an assistant coach in April 2017 and works primarily with the team’s ball control and floor defense while overseeing the team’s travel and recruiting efforts.Â
Riedel coached the Golden Flashes to top-25 national rankings in digs per set each of her first three seasons. Most recently, during the 2019 season, she helped Erin Gardner finish ranked 18th in the country with 5.26 digs per set. Gardner, a MAC All-Freshman Team selection in 2018, and sits third on Kent State’s all-time digs lists going into her final season of eligibility. During Riedel’s first season on staff in 2017, the Flashes ranked seventh nationally as a team, and Challen Geraghty posted a Kent State record of 5.97 digs per set to rank eighth individually.Â
Her coaching career began at Pierce College in 2007 where she served as an assistant coach for nine years and worked primarily as the program’s defensive coach, focusing on serve receive and defensive schemes. She helped guide the Brahmas to three consecutive state championships from 2011-13 and a state runner-up finish in 2015.Â
She also served as an administrator and coach with the Los Angeles Volleyball Academy since 2011. In her administrative role, Riedel was responsible for team and individual registrations, coordinating team travel and running tryouts. Additionally, she was the head coach for the 14-1 Adidas team.Â
Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Riedel was a four-year letterwinner at Cal Poly Pomona. She was a team captain and SAAC President during her senior year and served as the Publicity Director of SAAC for two years. Riedel earned a degree in behavioral science from Cal Poly Pomona in 2008.
