Today was our first day in London. At first we did a bit of a bus tour. As we drove around and through the city Mike, our tour guide, pointed out important and beautiful buildings, parks and monuments. Some of the places we saw were Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square and Tower Bridge.
After driving we made some specific stops to take a closer look. First off was Buckingham Palace. While we were there we were able to see the "Changing of the Guards". We saw them practice and then march over to the palace. Our second stop was Tower Bridge. This is the most beautiful bridge ever!
Initially we only saw it from afar but were then able to walk over it. The towers themselves had lots of ornate detail and spectacular color. Our final stop was further into the heart of the city where we were given more free time to go shopping or to see certain sites that we wanted to visit. We went to Trafalgar Square or the "Pigeon Place" as Bryn called it! This was very pretty as the sun was shining perfectly over the buildings and the sky was so blue. In the middle of the square is Nelson's Column, a tall monument to Admiral Nelson's victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, and around these are four giant lions. Big Ben followed, which is next to the British Houses of Parliament. This was another beautiful building with unreal architecture which we really enjoyed seeing. Finally was Westminster Abbey.
Again this was very detailed and pretty and lots of pictures were taken at all of these places. To sum up - London is a very beautiful, busy and huge city and we get to visit again tomorrow to do more sightseeing.
