About the Flashes
Sunday afternoon's game against James Madison will be the final contest at Murphy-Mellis Field for five seniors as the Golden Flashes celebrate Senior Day: Emma Seger, Emma Rolston, Maia Sarrabayrouse, Delfina Larripa, and Alisson Wood.
With two games remaining in the regular season, six teams sit within one game of sixth place in the MAC standings as the race to finish in the top six, and qualify for the tournament, continues to heat up. The Flashes still have work to do to clinch their spot, as the team will not be able to officially secure a MAC Tournament berth until the final day of the season, even with a win on Sunday afternoon.
The familiar goal-scoring suspects struck again for Kent State this past weekend. Maybritt Duwel scored an impressive overtime winner in Sunday's 1-0 victory over Central Michigan, bringing her to six goals for the season and matching Emma Rolston for the team lead. In Friday's loss to Ohio, Lauren Conroy scored her fifth goal of the season. Despite being a defender, the senior has continued to become a dangerous threat on offensive penalty corners for the Flashes. In the cage, Alisson Wood earned her third shutout of the season at Central Michigan, tallying five saves in the contest.
After a gutsy 1-0 overtime win at Central Michigan last Sunday, the Flashes have now won three consecutive games on the road. Kent State also won 3-0 at Bellarmine on October 10, preceded by another 1-0 overtime win at Ball State on September 28. The Flashes will try to match their road success at home on Sunday, as the team has not won at Murphy-Mellis Field since a season-opening 10-1 victory over Mercyhurst on August 29.
Scouting James Madison
James Madison is a solid outfit in the MAC once again after impressing in the team's debut season in the conference in 2024, sitting at 9-7 in 2025. They are coming off a diverse pair of results this past weekend, falling in a penalty stroke-off to UMass last Friday, before taking out their frustration with a 5-0 win at Bellarmine on Sunday. The Dukes have been strong on both ends of the field, with two double-digit goal-scorers and a team save percentage of 0.732. Sophomore forward Madelief Molier leads the team with 12 goals, while senior midfielder Alice Roeper has added ten goals and five assists this season. In the cage, Molly Schreiner has played the majority of the minutes, boasting 69 saves and a 0.726 individual save percentage.
The Dukes lead the all-time series over Kent State 12-4. In James Madison's first season as an affiliate member of the MAC in 2024, the Flashes fell 3-0 in a regular-season tie in Harrisonburg before the teams met again in the MAC Tournament, where a Kent State comeback fell short in a 3-2 defeat. The Dukes have won the last four games between the teams, with Kent State's last win coming in 2012, a 1-0 contest in Kent.
