CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Kent State freshman Brian Florek (Matawan, N.J./Old Bridge) and junior Jessica Lhotsky (Medina, Ohio/Highland) were recognized as the Mid-American Conference men's field and women's track Athletes of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced today.
Florek recorded a toss of 64.14 meters to capture the men's javelin at the Jesse Owens Classic last weekend (May 1-2) in Columbus, Ohio, marking a new personal record. He has passed the NCAA regional qualifying standard three times this season and has won the javelin three times.
Lhotsky ran away with the 800 meters at the Jesse Owens, taking first place in a lifetime personal-best 2:06.78. The victory marked Lhotsky's second of the season in the 800 and third time she's beat the regional qualifying time.
The Golden Flashes will get in one last tuneup before the MAC Outdoor Championships when they take part in the Campbell-Wright Open in Akron, Ohio, this weekend (May 8-9).
