Golden Flashes Enjoy Strong Performances at Doug Raymond Invitational

KENT, Ohio -- Several Kent State track & field student athletes produced solid marks at the Doug Raymound Invitational at the Kent State Field House Saturday (Jan. 15) as the Golden Flashes wrapped up a busy weekend.
Freshman Shanequa Williams (Akron, Ohio) won the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 56.44.
"I was so impressed with that young lady," said director of track & field Bill Lawson. "She had a good meet last night against running the 200 and the 4x4 and then came back ran strong today. She's going to be really good. She's got a good attitude and works hard."
Sophomore Kiplangat Tisia (Koibey, Kenya) finished second in the men's 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:22.66. Tisia's time ranks as the fifth fastest in school history in the event.
"It was really nice to have Kip back after he got back from a long trip to Kenya," said Lawson. "He had a great opener, and that shows a little bit of our strength in our distance area."
Junior Diana Dumitrescu (Campulung Arges, Romania) posted a leap of 5'-5.00" (1.65m) Â to place second in the women's high jump.
"Diana was pleased with her performance," said Lawson. "She's been training really hard and getting ready for next weekend when she tries to go for that national qualifying mark in the pentathlon."
Sophomore Wes Stein (Collins, Ohio) took third place in the men's weight throw with a toss of 56'-3.25".
Junior Danielle Dougherty (Peninsula, Ohio) clocked a 3:03.33 to finish fourth in the women's 1,000-meter run.
Freshman Joh'vonnie Mosley (Youngstown, Ohio) took fourth in the women's shot put with a toss of 45'-3.50" (13.80m).
Junior Randy Rue (Chillicothe, Ohio) recorded a throw a 51'-4.25" to take fourth in the men's shot put.
Sophomore Bo Crabtree (Lucasville, Ohio) finished fourth in the men's weight throw with a toss of 54'-10.25" (16.72m).
Sophomore Steve Fischer (Hudson, Ohio) ran a 1:55.82 to place fifth in the men's 800-meter run.
Kent State is back in action next weekend (Jan. 21-22), hosting the All Ohio Championships.
