Indoor Track and Field Host Akron for First MAC Dual Friday

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State Indoor Track and Field teams hosts Akron for the first Mid-American Conference dual of the season at 6 pm in the Kent State Field House on Friday, January 17.
The Golden Flashes are entering the dual after hosting the Doug Raymond Invitational on Saturday, January 11 in the field house on campus.
On the women's side, ranked No. 16 in the nation, Joh'Vonnie Mosley saw two first place marks as she set lifetime personal records in both events she competed in. In the shot put, Mosley finished with a mark of 54 feet two inches and tossed a distance of 58 feet six inches in the weight throw.
Jackie Leppelmeier joined Mosley in the shot put with her own lifetime personal record with a distance of 51 feet five inches to claim second place.
Lakia Kent-Allen, Becca Herte and Morgan Estes weren't left out of setting lifetime personal records themselves. Kent-Allen set her new PR in the triple jump with a jump of 37 feet 1.25 inches for first place. Herte and Estes took one, two, respectively, in pole vault as Herte had a height of 12 feet 3.50 inches and Estes tied teammate Tori Meyer with a jump of 11 feet 9.75 inches.
Four other Flashes took first place in events at the Doug Raymond, Roseanne Erickson in the long jump (19'-3.25"), JoAnne Pittman in the 60 meter hurdles (8.81), Hannah Fleck in the 1,000 meter run (2:57.94) and Erica Hutson in the 400 meter dash (57.63).
On the men's side, Cory Miller claimed first place in pole vault with his new lifetime personal best of 16 feet 6.75 inches. Jared Fleming's first place finish with a time of 1:55.23 in the 800 meter run landed him a lifetime personal best.
The men's team took first in six other events - Cody Jones in the High jump (6'-10.75"), Donovan Tolbert in the triple jump (47'-2.25"), 4x400 meter relay team (3:18.17) comprised of Wayne Gordon, Miles Dunlap, Andrew O'Leary and Danny Young, William Barnes in the 60-meter hurdles (8.22), Riak Reese in the 60-meter dash (7.00) and Laron Brown in the 200 meter dash (21.78) - in the first competition of 2014.
Scouting the Zips
The women's team for Akron is ranked No. 25 in the nation as both Zips indoor track and field teams come off out of their first dual with Cincinnati on January 10 in Akron. The women's team won 85.50-65.50 where they saw first place in 10 of 14 events with the men's team taking first in 11 of 14 and defeated the Bearcats 93.50-55.50.
Kent State's Indoor Track and Field teams next compete at the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. on Friday, Jan. 24 and Saturday Jan. 25 at the Indiana University.
