MAC Play Begins Saturday for Golden Flashes

THE GAME
Kent State (3-8, 0-0 MAC) opens up Mid-American Conference play at home on Saturday (Jan. 4) when they host Eastern Michigan (10-1, 0-0 MAC) at 2:00pm. There will be an autograph session for fans after the game.
The game marks the fifth straight at home. Last time out, Kent State fell 61-44 to St. Bonaventure. The game was tied 19-19 at the half after less than 35% shooting performances from both sides. In the second half, the Bonnies came out hot and shot 70% to earn the victory. Kent State outrebounded St. Bonaventure 33-28 in the contest and had 13 assists on 17 field goals. They also had 14 second chance points on 17 offensive rebounds. Montia Johnson was the only Golden Flashes to reach double-digits in scoring as she finished with 17 points. CiCI Shannon led the team with nine rebounds while Ashley Evans led Kent State with four assists and four steals.
The Golden Flashes started their current homestand by winning two in a row for the first time since January of the 2011-12 season. With three wins already in their keeping, they have already matched last year's win total. Their most recent victory, a 69-46 domination of Niagara, was the team's largest win-margin since December 1, 2010.
In their three victories, Kent State is averaging 18.3 made free-throws, 44 rebounds and 16 turnovers with a +1.7 turnover margin. They also have had at least three players reach double digits in scoring in the three victories
Eastern Michigan enters conference play with a MAC-best record of 10-1. They were picked to finish fourth in the West Division in the preseason poll. The Eagles' sole loss came in a 75-89 defeat at Michigan. They have reached 100 points in scoring three times already this season, in wins against Madonna, Marygrove and Detroit. Eastern Michigan leads the MAC in scoring offense, scoring margin, rebounding offense, steals, turnover margin, assist/turnover ratio, offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds and offensive rebound percentage entering Saturday's game.
