THE GAME
Kent State (3-9, 0-1 MAC) closes out its current six-game homestand by hosting Bowling Green (11-2, 1-0 MAC) in the second conference matchup of the season Thursday (Jan. 9) at 7:00pm in the M.A.C. Center.
In their last outing, the Golden Flashes scored well above their scoring average, but lost 70-88 to Eastern Michigan in the Mid-American Conference opener. Both Montia Johnson and CiCi Shannon ended the night with double-doubles while freshman Krista White posted a career-high 17 points. Larissa Lurken also had a good night, scoring 15, including three successful shots from beyond the arc. However, Kent State turned the ball over 27 times that resulted in 26 points for the visiting Eagles.
The Golden Flashes started their current homestand by winning two in a row for the first time since January of the 2011-12 season. With three wins already in their keeping, they have already matched last year's win total. Their most recent victory, a 69-46 domination of Niagara, was the team's largest win-margin since December 1, 2010.
In their three victories, Kent State is averaging 18.3 made free-throws, 44 rebounds and 16 turnovers with a +1.7 turnover margin. They also have had at least three players reach double digits in scoring in the three victories
Bowling Green currently leads the MAC East with an overall record of 11-2. The Falcons began their conference season with a 62-50 home win over Buffalo. Their two losses this year came on the road at Marist in a 60-74 defeat and at No. 18/21 Purdue, where they fell 48-57. Pre-season All-MAC First Team member Alexis Rogers leads Bowling Green by averaging 13.2 points and 8.4 rebounds a game. Erica Donovan and Jillian Halfhill are also averaging more than ten points per game this season. Rogers also leads the team with 19 steals while Halfhill has a team-high 44 assists.
