
Women’s Soccer Awaits Miami & Ball State

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State women's soccer team returns to action this weekend as they welcome Miami (OH) on Friday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. and Ball State on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. at Zoeller Field. LAST TIME OUT
Kent State is coming off the first Mid-American Conference road trip of the season last weekend taking on both Northern Illinois and Western Michigan. The Golden Flashes tied with the Huskies 1-1 after two overtimes, and then defeated the Broncos, 3-1. Sophomore Jenna Hellstrom scored the lone goal for the Flashes against Northern Illinois, and went on to score a goal and earn two assists against Western Michigan.
ABOUT KENT STATE
The Kent State women's soccer team heads into this weekend with a 7-3-2 overall record and a 2-1-1 mark in Mid-American Conference play. Hellstrom leads the offense with 13 points on four goals and five assists, and combined for six points in Kent State's last two games. Her five assists rank first overall in the MAC, while her 13 points rank third. Also helping out the offense is senior Stephanie Haugh and rookies Karli Paracca and Doni Capehart, who follow behind with six points apiece.
Junior goalkeeper Stephanie Senn has started in all 12 games and has a 7-3-2 record. She has allowed just nine goals (0.72 gaa) and has 60 saves (.870), including eight against Western Michigan last weekend.
SCOUTING MIAMI
Miami (9-2, 3-1 MAC) won both of its MAC games last weekend by defeating Toledo, 2-0, and Central Michigan, 2-0. Senior Kelsey Dinges leads the MAC and her team in scoring with 17 points on seven goals and three assists. Vic Maniaci and Danielle Wiseman have split time in goal this season. Maniaci is 4-1-0 on the year, and has allowed three goals and has 15 saves for a 4-1-0 record. Wiseman is 5-1-0 and has allowed six goals and has recorded 15 saves. Miami has won its last three straight games, all of which have been shutouts.
SCOUTING BALL STATE
The Cardinals of Ball State enter this weekend 6-3-2 overall with a 2-2 mark in the Mid-American Conference. Ball State split its home series last weekend as it defeated Central Michigan, 2-0, and suffered a 3-0 loss to Toledo. Sophomore Gabby Veldman leads the Cardinals with nine points on a team-high three goals and three assists. Madison Oyer is also helping out the Ball State offense with eight points on three goals and two assists.
Brooke Dennis has competed in 11 games in goal and has a 6-3-2 record. She has four shutouts and has allowed 10 goals (0.99 gaa) and has 46 saves (.821) on the year.
THE SERIES
The Golden Flashes have battled the RedHawks 17 times, with Miami leading the all-time series, 10-6-1. Miami has won the last five consecutive meetings, including a 1-0 victory over Kent State on Oct. 6, 2013 in Oxford. Kent State will meet Ball State for the 18th time, with the Flashes leading the series, 9-6-2. Kent State has been victorious in the last six meetings, including a 1-0 win in Muncie, Ind. on Oct. 4, 2013.
