
Golden Flashes Send Seven Track and Field Athletes to NCAA Championships Friday And Saturday

Kent State's indoor track and field teams send seven athletes – William Barnes, Dior Delophont, Wayne Gordon, Jackie Leppelmeier, Joh'Vonnie Mosley, Matthias Tayala, Danniel Thomas -- to the NCAA National Championships Fri., March 14 and Sat., March 15 in Albuquerque, N.M. at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Barnes takes to the championships with the 14th best time in the nation in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.75, which he ran at the MAC Championships as he moved into second place in the Kent State record books. The NCAA Championships 60-meter hurdles semifinals get started at 6:30 p.m. MST / 8:30 p.m. EST on Friday, the finals for the hurdles is Saturday at 6:20 p.m. MST / 8:20 p.m. EST.
Delophont, who won the high jump at the MAC Championships with a mark of 5' 10", enters the NCAA Championships in the high jump with the sixth best mark in the nation with a jump of 1.85m (6' 0.75") and is slated to compete Saturday at 3:30 p.m. MST / 5:30 p.m. EST.
Gordon takes on the track participants in the 200-meter dash in the semifinals Friday at 8:05 pm. MST / 10:05 p.m. EST. He has the Kent State record and the ninth best time in the nation in the 200-meter dash, ran a 20.74 in the MAC Championships for first place.
Leppelmeier, who is set to compete Friday a 7 p.m. MST / 9 p.m. EST, has the nation's 11th best mark in the weight throw with a distance of 21.14m (69' 4.25"), Kent State's indoor weight throw record that she set at the Findlay Open.
Thomas, the 2014 MAC Champion in the shot put (54' 2"), goes to Albuquerque with the nations 11th best mark with a distance of 16.97m (55' 8.25"). She is joined in the shot put at the NCAA Championships by Mosley who took third in the shot put at the MAC Championships, 51' 6.5". Mosley is 12th in the nation in the shot put with a mark of 16.92m (55' 6.25"). These two marks from Thomas and Mosley sit them second and third, respectively, in Kent State history. The women's shot put is set to get underway Saturday at 6 p.m. MST / 8 p.m. EST.
Tayala, Kent State's weight throw record holder, heads to the NCAA Championships with the nations fifth best throw of 72' 2.5" and is set to throw Friday at 4 p.m. MST / 6 p.m. EST.
On Monday, Kent State's Bill Lawson was named Great Lakes Region Women's Coach of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as assistant coach Nathan Fanger was named Women's Assistant Coach of the Year.
Kent State's track and field teams return to action after the NCAA Championships Sat., March 29 in Louisville, Ky. as they take part in the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational hosted by the University of Louisville.
