Kent State's Women’s T&F Team Wins 2014 Outdoor Championships

ATHENS, Ohio – Kent State's women's track and field team won the 2014 Mid-American Conference Outdoor title for their fourth consecutive year at the Goldsberry Track at Ohio University, Saturday, May 17.
Director of Track and Field, Coach Lawson was named the 2014 MAC Outdoor Women's Coach of the Year.
Dior Delophont was named the 2014 co-Most Vaulable Performer as she finished the championships with a first place in both the high jump and triple jump on Saturday, she finished third in the long jump Friday and took seventh in the javelin on Thursday; Delophont had a total of 28 points as she tied for co-MVP with Victoria Voronko of Eastern Michigan.
Danniel Thomas took home the Most Outstanding Field Performer as she won two events at the championships. Thomas won the discus Saturday and she won the shot put Friday.
The Golden Flashes picked up their fourth straight outdoor title and seventh straight MAC title with a victory at the championships with a 132 total points. The Flashes finished five points ahead of Akron who finished second with 127 points.
Kent State had three individual champions Saturday in four events. Dior Delophont picked up her seventh and eighth overall MAC titles with a win in the high jump, 1.82m (5' 11.5"), and the triple jump, 13.08m (42'11").
Delophont's high jump mark tied the meet record and was her second consecutive outdoor high jump record. She set a new personal-best in the triple jump as she moves to second all-time at Kent State.
Danniel Thomas followed up her performance from Friday's competition with a first place finish in the discus on Saturday. Thomas' had a mark of 57.67m (189' 2") on her way to setting the MAC record.
Ann Marie Duffus rounded out the champions on the women's side with a first place in the 100-meter hurdles. Duffus won the event with a time of 13.30 for a new meet record and a personal-best. Duffus also set a personal-best in the 100-meter dash, 12.11, for a sixth place finish.
Erica Hutson earned a bronze medal with a third place finish in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best of 55.01.
Kent State held onto a 127-124 lead over rival Akron going into the final event of the night, 4x400-meter relay, and came away with a fourth place finish, 3:42.54. The 4x400m relay team – Lynnese Beyan, Jorian Ordway, Lauren Burnett and Erica Hutson – had the fifth fastest time in school history.
The Golden Flashes take a week off as the prepare for the NCAA East Regional Championships in Jacksonville, Fla., Thurs., May 29-Sat., May 31.
