The Kent State's women's track and field team finished with the highest grade point average (GPA) among Mid-American Conference full-time members during the 2013-14 academic year. The conference office measures GPAs and credit hours earned for each team's entire roster.
The Golden Flashes finished with a team GPA of 3.349, and had 15 student-athletes on the Dean's List, which is a 3.4 GPA and above.
"Our mission here is to be a student, athlete and a person of character. I think they take that very serious. They work extremely hard and the results show that they work hard in the class room, with the 15 athletes on the Dean's List and a team GPA that leads the Mid-American Conference," Head coach and Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Bill Lawson said. "Our women's team has been doing a very good job over the past years, but we are extremely proud of the team for not only being good on the field but off the field as well and in the class room achieving the highest GPA in the MAC for women's track and field. I am very pleased with that and we expect more good things out of the ladies."
This past season Dior Delophont was recognized by the College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as she was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Second Team.
Last season, the Flashes had six NCAA Regional Qualifiers in seven events with four of them advancing to the National Championships in four events and produced one NCAA National Runner-Up in the discus. Of the four that advanced to the championships, Kent State had one first team All-American, three-second team All-Americans with two honorable mention All-Americans.
