Field Hockey Loses 6-3 at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – With a new lineup on the field, Kent State (2-7) was strong on the onset against Drexel (6-3) but fell 6-3 to the Dragons on Sunday afternoon.
"We came out ready to play today," Head Coach Kathleen Wiler said. "We came out with a lot of passion and got on the board early. Drexel is a team that is never going to go away and neither is Kent State. I just obviously would have liked to come out with a better result today but I'm really proud of the effort that my team is putting forth."
The Golden Flashes struck first when Alison Harmatz found the back of the net on a deflection from a shot by Julia Hofmann. The Dragons answered at the 20-minute mark to tie the game. It did not stay even long, though, as Hannah Faulkner broke the tie off an assist by Krysti Lober to make it a 2-1 game.
The back-and-forth play continued as Drexel tied things once again and then tallied a goal within a minute of halftime to take a 3-2 lead at the break.
Out of halftime, Hofmann scored quickly on a penalty corner. But, the Dragons kept fighting, scoring three times to close out the game with a 6-3 victory.
Kent State led with 15 shots to Drexel's 14 and also had 11 corners to the home team's six. Hofmann led the team with with five shots while Harmatz had three.
The Golden Flashes head on the road again next weekend. They begin Mid-American Conference play Friday at Missouri State and round out the weekend at St. Louis on Sunday.
