Late Action Hands Kent State First Conference Win

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Kent State (3-7) was able to turn up the pressure in the second half on Friday to come away with its first Mid-American Conference win of the season in a 2-0 win at Missouri State (2-10).
"We executed well today," Head Coach Kathleen Wiler said. "We came in here with the goal to get our first conference win and we did that. I'm happy with the way we played."
The game sat in a scoreless tie at halftime with Missouri leading in shot 5-3 and both teams having three corners each.
Finally, Julia Hofmann was able to break the tie when she took a direct hit on a corner and put in her own deflection to give Kent State the 1-0 advantage with 13 minutes remaining in the match.
Hannah Faulkner made it a 2-0 Kent State lead with seven minutes to play off an assist by Alison Harmatz on a breakaway. Both goals game on what Wiler noted were unselfish plays.
The Golden Flashes had 11 shots in the second half while the Bears were only able to get off two. The teams totaled 14 and seven in the game, respectively. Kent State also had more corners with a 12 to three advantage.
Andrea Rinehart recorded the second shutout of her career with three saves. Hofmann led with six shots while Faulkner, Madison Thompson and Ines Delpech also contributed with two each.
Kent State remains in Missouri to face St. Louis on Sunday at 2:00p.m. EST.
