KENT, Ohio – The Kent State women's soccer team travels to Cleveland State for a 1 p.m. game against the Vikings on Sunday, Sept. 7 at Krenzler Soccer Field.
The Golden Flashes, coming off a UNLV Nike Invitational title, boast a 3-1-0 record after defeating both St. Francis (Pa.) and No .24 Colorado, 1-0, in Las Vegas last weekend. Freshman Karli Paracca scored both of Kent State's goals over the weekend, while junior Stephanie Senn shutout both opponents in net. Paracca was named the UNLV Nike Invitational Most Outstanding Player, while Senn earned Most Outstanding Goalkeeper recognition. Sophomore Jenna Hellstrom was also selected to the All-Tournament Team.
Paracca currently leads Kent State in scoring with four points with two goals, while five Golden Flashes have two points. Kent State leads its opponents 53-39 in shots, and has posted a commanding lead in corner kicks, 25-11. She was named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, and was also a CS350 Primetime Performer Honor Roll selection.
Junior goalkeeper Stephanie Senn has posted three shutouts and has allowed just one goal in 366:47 (0.25 gaa) and has 21 saves (.955). Senn was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Kent State and Cleveland State will meet for the ninth time, as the Golden Flashes lead the all-time series 6-1-1. Kent State has been victorious in the last three consecutive meetings, including a 1-0 win last season on Zoeller Field.
Cleveland State enters the weekend 2-3 on the year, and travels to Bowling Green on Friday before playing host to the Golden Flashes on Sunday. The Vikings have won their last two games, with a 6-0 victory against Chicago State and a 3-1 home win against Akron.
Against the Zips, junior Chloe Fadenholz scored the first goal 11:50 into the game, but Akron tied it up at the 24-minute mark. Cleveland State then scored twice in the second period, the first at the 55 mark by Haleigh Shingary and the final goal in the 83rd minute by senior Amanda Sivic.
Sivic leads the squad in scoring with eight points on a team-high four goals, followed by Fadenholz with five points (2g, 1a).
Junior goalkeeper Sarah Wood has started all five games. In 391:10, she has allowed seven goals and has 20 saves on the year.
