
Kent State Hosts Miami in MAC Quarterfinals

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State women's soccer team will host Miami (OH) at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1 in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference Championship.Â

ABOUT THE GOLDEN FLASHES
Kent State is coming off a 1-0 victory over Ohio University on Thursday in its regular-season finale. Junior Jenna Hellstrom (Sudbury, Ontario) tallied her 11th goal of the season in the 61st minute to lead the Golden Flashes to an undefeated season at Zoeller Field at 7-0-1.  Sophomore Jaime Eiben (Mentor, Ohio) assisted on Hellstrom's game-winner to earn her third of the season.
Kent State's win against the Bobcats not only earned the Golden Flashes a fourth place finish in the overall MAC standings, but also a second place finish in the MAC East.
Hellstrom leads the team and the MAC with 33 points on 11 goals and 11 assists. She also ranks fifth in the nation in total assist and assists per game, and ranks 15th in total points and points per game (1.82).
Redshirt sophomore Donavan Capehart (Orient, Ohio) has 24 points on 12 goals and sophomore Hayden Pascoe (Belle Vernon, Pa.) has 14 points on four goals and six assists.
Rookie goalkeeper Ashleah McDonald (Langley, British Columbia) earned her third shutout and improved to 11-5-1 on the year. She has allowed 19 goals (1.11 gaa) and has tallied 75 saves (0.798 save percentage).
ABOUT MIAMI
The RedHawks arrive in Kent with a 10-7-1 overall record and a 6-4-1 mark in the MAC and are the fifth seed of the MAC Tournament.  In its last five games, Miami is just 1-3-1 and is coming off a 1-0 loss to Ball State on Thursday afternoon.
The RedHawks have tallied 20 goals this season, which ranks seventh in the league. However, Miami sits atop of the MAC in goals allowed (11), goals against average (0.63) and shutouts (9).
Rachel Marble leads the Miami offense with nine points on four goals and one assist, followed by both Kat Zalar and Haley Walter with eight points apiece.Â
Goalkeeper Vic Maniaci is 10-7-1 on the year with a league-high eight shutouts. Maniaci also leads the MAC in goals against average (0.62) and ranks second in save percentage (.859).
KENT STATE vs. MIAMI
The Golden Flashes lost in overtime to the RedHawks on Oct. 11 in Oxford.  Ashley Weathers put one in the net in the 97th minute. Miami outshot Kent State 16-7 and led 4-3 in corner kicks.  Kent State and Miami will meet for the 21st time on Sunday. The RedHawks lead the all-time series 12-6-2 and have been unbeaten in the last seven meetings.Â
Kent State has made the MAC tournament in 12 of its 18 years, including five times in the last six.   The first and only time Miami and Kent have squared off in post-season play was in 2012, when Kent State was pitted against the RedHawks in the semifinals. The RedHawks defeated the Flashes' 3-1 in Oxford.
Should Kent State prevail on Sunday, it will advance to the MAC Tournament semifinals, which will be hosted by the highest remaining MAC Tournament seed from Sunday's results.
