T&F Opens Season with the Golden Flashes Gala this Weekend

Kent State's track and field programs kick off the indoor portion of the 2015-16 season with the Golden Flashes Gala at the Kent State Field House this weekend Friday, December 10th and Saturday, December 11th.

This year's Gala starts at 12:30 p.m. Friday afternoon with the field events, where combined events (women's pentathlon) starts at 2 p.m., and running at 5 p.m. (5000m). Saturday's events start at 10:30 a.m. with the 60m dash qualifying, if needed, and combined events as well as field events start at 11 a.m.
Both the women's and men's teams sent representatives to the NCAA Championships last year. Matthias Tayala finished second in the hammer throw with his best throw of 76.91m (252' 4"). Dior Delophont finished tied for 17th in the high jump with a jump of 1.77m (5' 9.75"). Kent State also sent its men 4x400m relay team of Matthew Tobin, Andrew O'Leary, Danny Young, and Miles Dunlap finished 16th with a time of 3:08.36.
Last season Kent State had a great showing at the Golden Flash Gala with 11 victories. Among the winners last year, Roosevelt Dotson took first in the high jump (2.14m | 7' 0.25") as he moved into fifth on Kent State's All-Time Top Performers List. William Barnes accounted for two victories in the 60m Hurdles (7.89) and the 200m dash (21.66). Jesse Oxley picked up one win for Kent State, as he walked away with first in the pole vault at 5.05m (16' 6.75").
On the women's side, the 4x400m relay team 'a' - Lynnese Beyan, Jorian Ordway, Taylor Farquhar and Tyler Williams - took first with a time of 3:43.77. Sam Tollerud and Morgan Estes both tied for first in 2014 in the pole vault with a mark of 3.91m (12' 10").
