Track and Field Hosts Kent State Tune-Up Saturday

After a strong performance at the Spire Invitational, the Kent State track and field team returns home for a tune up to prepare for the MAC Indoor Championships. The tune up will take place on Saturday, February 21 at the Kent State Field House.

Flash Back at Last Weekend's SPIRE ...
On the first day of the Spire Invitational, Hannah Fleck cemented herself in school history finishing seventh overall in the women's 1000m run with a time of 2:50.10. Fleck finished first in the section of the race and now sits second all-time in Kent State history.
William Barnes finished first in the 10th section of the 200m dash and took fourth place overall with a time of 21.68.
In the women's weigh throw, the Golden Flashes received a second place finish from Jackie Leppelmeier when she recorded a throw of 19.45m (63' 9.75").
On day two of the competition, Morgan Estes stood out for the Flashes taking first in the women's pole vault and setting the school record with a vault of 4.10m (13' 5.25").
Also standing out on day two was Jorian Ordway and Lauren Burnett. Ordway finished in eighth in the 400m dash with a personal-best 55.31, and moved into fourth all-time in Kent State history. Burnett joined Ordway in running her way into history books as she took fifth in the 800m run with a personal-best of her own at 2:09.49, she now sits seventh all-time at Kent State.
Also bringing home a victory on day two was Danniel Thomas, who won the women's shot put with a mark of 16.17m (53' 0.75").
Cayla Carey and Xavier Braxton both came away with fourth place finishes in their respected events. Carey competed in the women's long jump and Braxton in the men's long jump finishing with marks of 5.59m (18' 4.25") and 7.17m (23' 6.25"), respectively.
Continuing from his day one performance, William Barnes took fifth in the 60m hurdles at 7.92 seconds.
Jumping her way into a second place finish in the women's high jump, Dior Delophont finished with a height of 1.81m (5' 11.25").
The women's 4x400m relay team – Ordway, Tyler Williams, Burnett and Taylor Farquhar – came away with a fifth place 3:42.17 finished, The four runners ran the second fastest time in Kent State history, just short of the record, 3:41.59.

The Golden Flashes will head to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan to compete in the MAC Indoor Championships. The event will be held on February 27th and 28th with the first day of competition starting at 10 a.m. and the second day of competition starting at 9:45 a.m.
