Chanticleer Classic Up Next For Baseball

Baseball will head back south for the Chanticleer Classic this weekend. Kent State will face West Virginia (3-3) on Friday at noon, host Coastal Carolina (5-2) on Saturday at 2 p.m. and No. 25 Illinois (6-0-1) on Sunday at 10 a.m.

• The Golden Flashes lost to Illinois 4-5 in the second week of the season
• They played back-to-back games against WVU a few days later, winning the first 5-3 then losing 4-5
• Kent State played a three-game series at Coastal Carolina the third week of the season. The Flashes dropped the first game 3-4 in 11 innings before taking the last two 9-3 and the rubber match 8-6 in 12 innings
NEWCOMERS STEPPING UP
• Kent State's young roster members are proving their worth so far to start the season off
• Sophomore transfer Luke Burch and freshmen Tim DalPorto and Dylan Rosa are all batting above .200 with all starting almost every game so far
• Burch leads the team in runs scored, has the second most stolen bases and 4th most hits
• On the mound, sophomores Andy Ravel and Jared Skolnicki have proven to be solid weekend starters with a 1.50 and 2.45 ERA, respectively
VETERANS LEADING THE WAY
• Junior Jacob Neuschaefer leads the team offensively by batting .444 and stealing five bases already this season
• Senior Sawyer Polen and junior Zarley Zalewski have also gotten off to hot starts at the plate
• Junior Nick-Jensen Clagg has proven to hold down the No.1 start in the weekend rotation
