OXFORD, Ohio – Larissa Lurken netted a career-high 22 points on Saturday afternoon but Kent State (5-22, 3-13) was unable to leave Miami (7-20, 4-12) with a win, losing 66-59.
The Golden Flashes led 25-17 at the 7:53 mark in the first but the RedHawks worked their way back, going on a 10-2 run to tie the game at 27 with 4:20 on the clock.
At the half, Miami held a 35-32 advantage on 61% shooting from the field.
After a three-minute scoring loll out of halftime, Jordan Korinek made a layup and a free throw to tie the game at 35. Another Korinek layup game the Flashes a two-point lead less than a minute later. A basket by Lurken added to the Kent State lead before two quick tallies by Miami tied the game back at 39 points each.
The Golden Flashes were able to tie the game again a little later on, but the RedHawks then pushed ahead en route to the victory, though never going up by more than eight points in the second half.
Kent State's defense cooled Miami's shooting down in the closing twenty minutes, as the home team's shooting percentage dropped to 25% in the second half. The Flashes outrebounded 36-32 in the game.
Lurken's 22 points led the team while CiCi Shannon and Korinek both scored 11. Shannon had a double-double by adding in 13 rebounds.
Kent State will finish the regular season at home when it hosts Ohio Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Buffalo on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Mid-American Conference Tournament begins Monday, March 9th with the first round at campus sites.
