Women's Golf Eyes History at MAC Championships this Weekend

Kent State women's golf will look to make history this weekend as it vies for its 17th-straight Mid-American Conference championship. The feat will tie Eastern Michigan's men's swimming and diving as the longest consecutive championship streak in MAC history.

• As the highest ranking team, Kent State will tee off in the last group on Friday from 11:30 a.m. – 12:10 a.m. They will be paired with Toledo and Eastern Michigan in the opening round
• The second round on Saturday will begin with tee times at 8:00 a.m.
• The final round on Sunday will have the same tee times, from 8:00 a.m. through 11:10 a.m.
Event History
• Last season, the Golden Flashes shot 31-over to win the event by 21 strokes
• Jennifer Ha took top honors for the second-straight year while Natalie Goodson finished in second place and Wad Phaewchimplee took 3rd. Josée Doyon finished in a tie for 6th
• Kent State posted the lowest winning score of the championships in 2001 after shooting an 887
• The team's biggest margin of victory was a remarkable 66 strokes in 2002
• No other MAC team has been closer than 12 strokes of the lead after the final day

• Kent State is currently ranked 32nd in the nation by Golfweek and 36th by Golfstat
• The team is coming off a first place finish at the Lady Buckeye Invitational. They finished 2nd in the event prior to that, the Rebel Intercollegaite in Oxford, Mississippi
• Josée Doyon has won the last two events as an individual and has shot par or better in her last seven competitive rounds
• Wad Phaewchimplee is currently ranked 32nd in the World Golf Amateur Rankings. She has five top-ten finishes in nine events this season, including finishing in the top four in her last three events
• The team currently has a scoring average of 295.70. That is on good pace to beat last year's scoring average and the best in program history of 298.56
• They are also shooting 9.93 versus par on the season, which also breaks last year's program record of 11.97
