AVON, Ohio – It took until the 8th inning to break out of a scoreless deadlock in No. 2 Kent State's opening game of the Mid-American Conference tournament. Unfortunately, it was No. 7 Western Michigan who put up a crooked number and took the game by a score of 5-0.
Nick Jensen-Clagg pitched a great game, putting up zero after zero. He went 7.1 innings with just four hits and two walks while allowing two earned runs. His five strikeouts on the day brought his season total up to 108, which currently sits as the 4th-most in a single season in Kent State history.
The Golden Flashes were only able to get four hits in the game, with three of those coming off the bat of Zarley Zalewski. The Broncos' took advantage of an error to open the game in the 8th with a five-run frame.
Josh Pierce followed Jensen-Clagg and allowed two runs on two hits. John Birkbeck got the next two outs of the game on eight pitches. Eli Martin got the final out in the top of the 9th after allowing two hits.
Kent State will now face No. 6 Bowling Green on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
