
Women’s Soccer Defeats Butler 2-1 Friday Night

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Sophomore Hayden Pascoe (Vernon, Pa.) and junior Jenna Hellstrom (Sudbury, Ontario) both scored goals to lead the Kent State women's soccer team to a 2-1 road victory over the Butler Bulldogs tonight. The Golden Flashes improved to 2-2-2 on the year, while the Bulldogs dropped to 5-2-1.
Butler lit up the scoreboard first tonight after Halle Stelbasky put one past Kent State rookie goalkeeper Ashleah McDonald (Langley, British Columbia) to give the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead. The goal was her sixth of the season, while assists were credited to both Sophia Maccagnone and Christy Chou.
Just six minutes later, sophomore Pascoe tallied the equalizer after her shot from 10 yards out got past Madison Card in goal. Earning assists on the goal were freshman Veronica Bosco (Mississauga, Ontario) and Hellstrom.
Twenty seconds before the intermission, Kent State was able to take the lead after Hellstrom got to a loose ball that evaded the keeper and fired it in. The goal was Hellstrom's fourth of the season.
The Golden Flashes led 14-10 in shots for the game, and also edged Butler 4-3 in corner kicks.
Hellstrom led the attack with five shots, including two on goal, followed by Briana Bartolone, Kristen Brots and Veronica Bosco with two apiece.
McDonald picked up two saves in her victory to improve to 2-1-1 for the season, while Butler goalkeeper Madison Card stopped four shots to fall to 5-2-1 .
Kent State will now host Cleveland State at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13. The Golden Flashes will honor their three seniors; Bartolone, Madison Helterbran and Stephanie Senn prior to the match.
