KENT, Ohio – The Kent State University men's golf team is set to compete locally and defend its title in the Cleveland State Invitational at the Barrington Country Club in Aurora, Ohio from Oct. 3-4. The Golden Flashes will enter their third tournament of the fall ranked 18th in the latest Golfweek team rankings.
Kent State enters to the national top-20 after two impressive showings this fall. Head-to-head, they hold a 22-5 overall record. Of the five teams that have finished ahead of the Golden Flashes, four are ranked in the top-25, the other a top-50 team.
The Golden Flashes have been led this year by Ian Holt, who is ranked 47th individually by Golfweek. Holt enters this week's tournament off of back-to-back top-10 finishes.
The squad will look to parlay the top-20 ranking into a second straight tournament victory at the par-72, 7,136-yard Barrington Country Club. Last year, Kent State won with a combined 17-under 847, defeating second-place finisher, Oakland, by 20 strokes. Chase Johnson and Holt led the Golden Flashes with a collective 6-under 210 to place second on the individual leaderboard.
The Flashes will go up against a field of: Cleveland State, Appalachian State, Detroit, Longwood, Loyola (Ill.), Malone, Oakland, Robert Morris, Wright State and Youngstown State.
