No. 9 Men's Golf Third at Bank of Tennessee Invitational

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – The No. 9 Kent State men's golf team finished its weekend strong Sunday, ending in third place at 15-under par 849 (287-277-285) at the Bank of Tennessee Invitational at the par-72 Blackthorn Club at the Ridges.
After ending round one in ninth place, the Flashes had back-to-back days of moving up the standings, finally finishing in the top-three after a three-under par final 18. The Flashes finished behind No. 24 Missouri (-22) and No. 12 Virginia (-35), but beat the remaining field of 12 teams by at least seven strokes. Kent State finished double digits ahead of 11 teams.
Josh Whalen capped off a strong tournament with a solid round Sunday, solidifying a tie for 10th place at seven-under par 209. He finished under par for the third straight day Sunday at one-under 71.
Ian Holt, the 13th ranked golfer in the nation, and Gisli Sveinbergsson both ended in a tie for 15th place at four-under par 212. The duo each shot an even par 72 in round three. For Holt, it ended a stellar streak of nine straight rounds of 70 or better.
Bjarki Petursson competed as an individual and showed the depth of Kent State's roster. Petursson logged a 73 Sunday to finish the tournament at one-under par 215, good for a tie at 24th place. Freshman Chris Doody was not far behind, ending at even par 216. He had his best round of the tournament Sunday to finish in a tie for 28th. Chase Johnson wrapped up the lineup with a score of 231, ending in a tie for 76th.
The Golden Flashes will end their fall season at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas, Texas from Oct. 24-25.
