
Soccer Takes on Rival Akron Thursday; Hosts Buffalo Sunday

Kent State soccer looks to keep their momentum going as they head to Akron Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. to compete for their ninth consecutive win and secure a point for Kent State in the Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge. Following their match with the Zips at First Energy Stadium, the Golden Flashes will host the University at Buffalo on Sunday at 1 p.m. Sunday's game will be played at Dix Stadium.

The MAC East leading Golden Flashes (8-1-0, 4-0 MAC) are coming off an offensive outburst against Western Broncos in which Kent State netted four second half goals, leading to a 5-1 victory.
The Kent State goal scorers were Abbie Lawson, Kristen Brots, Hayden Pascoe, Donavan Capehart and Paige Culver. Capehert has now scored a goal in three straight matches and was named MAC East Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts.
Senior Jenna Hellstrom recorded assists on the goals by Brots and Pascoe, giving her 29 assists for her career, a new Kent State record. Hellstrom needs two goals to eclipse the current Kent State career record of 31, which would give her possession of the all-time goals, assists and points records.
RANKING THE GOLDEN FLASHES
• With a record of 8-1-0, the Golden Flashes rank sixth nationally in win-loss-tie percentage at .889.
• Kent State leads the MAC in goals per game (2.11), points per game (5.89) and goals allowed (8).
• Jenna Hellstrom is fifth in the nation in points per game (2.22) and seventh in assists per game (0.67). Hellstrom leads the MAC in each of those categories as well as assists with six.
• Donavan Capehart and Kristen Brots are tied for ninth in MAC in goals per game (0.33). Capehart is also ninth in the conference in points per game (0.78) and is now tied for seventh in Kent State history in goals with 18.
• Abbie Lawson and Brittany Maisano are each one start away from solidifying a spot in the Kent State record book. Both seniors have registered 68 career starts.
THE MATCHUPS
Akron:
• Kent State leads the all-time series with Akron at 12-3-0 and currently own a five-match win streak over the Zips. Last season's match ended in a score of 3-1 in favor of the Golden Flashes
• The Zips (3-7-2, 0-2-2 MAC) are coming off a 2-1 loss to Bowling Green.
• Akron holds a record of 1-2-1 in five home matches this season.
• Goalkeeper Annabelle Hegeman has totaled 53 saves so far this season, the second most in the MAC.
• Freshman forward Chloe Allen leads the Zips with five goals.
Buffalo:
• The all-time series between the Golden Flashes and the Bulls is deadlocked at 9-9-1 dating back to 1998. Buffalo defeated Kent State last season in tightly contested match ending in a score of 1-0.
• The Bulls (5-5-2, 2-2 MAC) have won two matches in a row having defeated Toledo (1-0) and Bowling Green (2-0) last weekend.
• Buffalo will host Ohio Thursday before making the trip to Kent. The Bulls are 0-3-1 on the road this season.
• The Bulls have been strong on defense this season, ranking third in the MAC in goals against average (0.80) and saves (56).
• Sophomore Carissima Cutrona leads the Bulls with seven goals this season.
