KENT, Ohio โ Alison Harmatz recorded her first career hat trick as Kent State (8-5, 4-0) remains perfect in Mid-American Conference play after an all-around 7-0 triumph against Missouri State (1-9, 0-3) on Sunday afternoon.
Harmatz got the scoring started as Jessica Nesbitt fed a ball in to her from the right side after nearly 15 minutes of action in the game.ย Kortney Keller collected a shot that deflected off the goalkeeper's pads later on to make it a 2-0 game.ย Shortly before the half, Madison Thompson was strong on the attack, dribbling in from the right and beating the keeper on a straight-on shot.
Momentum continued with the Flashes in the second half.ย Harmatz again started things off again, this time off a pass in from Shannon Talbot.ย Five minutes later, Laila Richter made it a 5-0 game as she stayed composed in the circle to find the back of the net off a deflection.
With ten minutes remaining in the match Krysti Lober joined in the scoring party off an assist from Ines Delpech.ย Harmatz's third and Kent State's final goal of the day came at 64:13 as she dribbled the ball into the circle and got the tally from the left side.
Not to be overshadowed, Kent State's defense once again put on a dominating performance, as they have done all year in MAC games.ย The Bears were not able to get a shot off until the second half and ended the game with just three.ย They also never had a corner opportunity in the game.
The Golden Flashes have now outshot their opponents in six straight games by a margin of 129 to 42.
The shot totals on Sunday's game were 31 to 3 while Kent State also had seven corners.ย Andrea Rinehart had a slow day in net, seeing just one shot on goal, which she saved.
The Flashes will travel to Miami on Friday, October 14 in a rematch of last season's MAC Tournament Championship game where Kent State won in double overtime.ย A potential championship opportunity will be on the line in that game that begins at 4:30 p.m.
