
Four Olympic Hopefuls Set to Compete in U.S. Trials

KENT, Ohio – Kent State track and field's Reggie Jagers III (Solon, Ohio), Kim Hamilton '09 (Cave Junction, Ore.), Nia Henderson '09 (Westland, Mich.) and Matthias Tayala '15 (McDonald, Ohio) look to accomplish their life-long goals of reaching the Olympics as they compete in the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, scheduled for July 1-10, at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

All four athletes need to finish in the top three at the trials and hit the Olympic 'A' standard in their respective events to clinch spots on the United States Olympic Team.
Tayala will be the first to see action from historic Hayward Field, as the qualifying round of the men's hammer throw is set to begin at 8:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, July 6, with the final round to follow at 10:00 p.m. ET. The Olympic 'A' standard Tayala needs to hit is 77.00 meters.
Up next will be Henderson competing in the qualifying round of the women's shot put at 2:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, July 7, with the finals taking place at 9:15 p.m. ET that night should Henderson advance. The Olypmic 'A' standard Henderson needs to hit is 17.75 meters.
Following Henderson on Thursday will be Hamilton in the women's javelin qualifying round at 6:30 p.m. ET. The final round of the women's javelin will take place on Saturday, July 9 at 7:00 p.m. ET. Hamilton look to hit the Olympic 'A' Standard of 62.00 meters.
Jagers will compete in the men's discus qualifying round on Thursday, July 7 at 9:00 p.m. ET. The final round is slated for July, 8 at 6:30 p.m. ET. The Olympic 'A' standard Jagers needs to hit is 65.00 meters.
If Hamilton, Henderson, Jagers or Tayala finish in the top-three and hit their standards, they will join William Barnes (110m hurdles, Puerto Rico) and Danniel Thomas (shot put, Jamaica), who have already qualified for the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.
