EUGENE, Oregon- For the second straight year, Kent State's Jackie Leppelmeier earns Second Team All-American honors in the hammer throw, as she finished 10th at the 2016 NCAA National Track and Field Championships at the University of Oregon on Thursday, June 9.
After a heave of 60.45m (198' 4") on her first attempt and foul on second attempt, Leppelmeier found herself in 13th place, needing to finish in the top-nine to advance to the final round. A season-best throw of 61.31m (201' 1") on her third attempt put Leppelmeier in 10th place, just shy of advancing to the final round.
Leppelmeier finishes her career at Kent State as a four-time All-American and two-time Mid-American Conference champion.
DeAnna Price of Southern Illinois won her second consecutive hammer throw national championship with a mark of 71.53m (234' 8"), breaking her own NCAA Championship record of 71.49m (234' 6").
The Golden Flashes wrap up their trip to Eugene tomorrow, as Reggie Jagers III competes in the men's discus championship at 8:05pm ET and Donovan Tolbert competes in the men's triple jump championship at 8:30pm ET.
