
Geraghty Breaks Digs Record in Five-Setter Against RedHawks

KENT, Ohio – Senior libero Challen Geraghty took over the top spot on Kent State's career digs lists in a 3-2 loss (19-25, 25-21, 30-32, 25-21, 6-15) to Miami on Saturday at the M.A.C. Center. Geraghty tallied a match-high 29 digs to move ahead of former record holder Laura Jensen (2004-07) and now has 2,172 digs as a Golden Flash.
Both teams fought hard to avoid going winless on the weekend. The match featured several momentum swings with 34 ties and 13 lead changes. Miami made the final run of the match, however, and turned an 8-6 lead in the fifth set into a rout by closing on a 7-0 run.
The Golden Flashes (2-13, 0-4 MAC) posted a season-high in digs for the second night in a row and held a 109-94 advantage over the RedHawks. Junior Sam Jones played her best match in Blue and Gold with a career-high 21 digs and sophomore Claire Tulisiak added 11 digs.
Senior Kelsey Bittinger and freshman Natalie Tagala recorded double-doubles for the second straight night. Bittinger led all players with 19 kills and added 18 digs. Tagala had 48 assists and a career-high 19 digs while also posting six kills and a .600 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Ashley Makruski provided a huge offensive boost off the bench for the Flashes. Makruski posted a career-high 16 kills over the final four sets of the match. Senior Heather Younkin had 13 kills as Kent State held a 65-63 advantage in kills.
Miami (10-7, 2-2 MAC) recorded 20 blocks and had five players with double-digit kills.
Kent State hosts Ohio at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5 and then heads to Central Michigan for a match on Saturday, Oct. 7.
