KENT, Ohio – The Kent State University field hockey team (6-9, 3-1 MAC) will return to Murphy-Mellis Field for a Saturday afternoon game against Longwood (11-3, 4-1 MAC) at noon.
The Golden Flashes have two matches remaining, with the regular season finale scheduled for Oct. 28 at home against Ohio. The MAC Tournament will follow, to be played between the top four teams in the league at Murphy-Mellis Field Nov. 3-4.
This Saturday, the Flashes will have a chance to stay in the hunt for a regular season title (with a loss by Miami Friday) or position themselves as the two seed in the tournament. The Lancers have positioned themselves as contenders in the MAC, winning four of five MAC matches. Their lone loss in conference came on the road against Miami, 2-1.
Kent State has had similar success in conference play and are coming off back-to-back road victories. Kent State defeated Ball State two weeks ago, 2-1, and most recently defeated Central Michigan, 7-0.
To continue their momentum, Kent State will have to stop the top scorer in the MAC, Longwood's Leonie Verstraete. The junior has a league best 13 goals on the season and leads the MAC in shot attempts. She'll face a defense led by All-American Ines Delpech, who was recently selected to compete in the NFHCA Senior Game.
Live video and stats will be available for the match. Check back with KentStateSports.com after the match for a recap.
