Women’s Basketball Travels to YSU on Tuesday

Kent State's women's basketball team makes the short trip to Youngstown State on Tuesday for the first of three games this week in Northeast Ohio. The contest is scheduled to tip at 5:15 p.m. on ESPN3 as part of a doubleheader with the Penguins' men's team set to take on Franciscan to follow.
The Golden Flashes (1-0) will play their first seven games of the season away from the M.A.C. Center. In addition to Tuesday's game, local fans will have two chances to watch the Flashes play at this weekend's Akron Classic when they play Florida Gulf Coast at 5 p.m. Friday and then Southeastern Louisiana at 12 p.m. Saturday to begin a stretch of five straight neutral site contests.
Kent State rallied for a 59-54 win Saturday at Northern Kentucky in the season opener. Senior Jordan Korinek scored nine of her career-high 29 points in the fourth quarter as part of a 28-9 run to end the game. Korinek was unstoppable near the basket, shooting 8-for-15 from the field and 11-for-13 from the free throw line. The Preseason All-MAC East selection also made both of her three-point tries while adding four rebounds and two blocks. Sophomore Ali Poole played a game-high 38 minutes and chipped in 12 points, four rebounds and two steals. Graduate student McKenna Stephens grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, and senior Naddiyah Cross totaled six assists and four steals.
The Flashes' defense was stellar in the second half and held the Norse to 6-for-33 shooting (.182). Starting at the 4:53 mark in the third quarter, Kent State kept NKU without a field goal for the next 16 possessions to turn a 44-34 deficit into a 49-45 lead with 4:16 to play.
