KENT, Ohio – The No. 13 Kent State University women's golf team is set for the Henssler Intercollegiate, hosted by Kennesaw State March 27-28 at Pinetree Country Club.
The tournament begins with 36 holes on Monday and a final round Tuesday, each with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Competing against the Golden Flashes are: hosts Kennesaw State, Texas Tech, Memphis, Augusta, Chattanooga, Troy, Maryland, Georgia Southern, Illinois, Eastern Michigan, No. 24 Purdue, Virginia Tech and Southern Mississippi.
Two tournaments remain before the MAC Championship, in which the Flashes will host and compete for their 19th straight title. The team's current form has earned the team national elite status, having claimed top two finishes in five of the last six tournaments.
The most recent performance resulted in a dominant win at the BYU at Entrada Classic, finishing the tournament at 2-over par 866 (289-286-291). Kent State defeated second-place host BYU by 13 strokes. The rest of the field was defeated by 40 strokes, with third place going to Tulsa at 42-over par. Highlighting the performance was an individual victory for Karoline Stormo, the first of her young collegiate career. The freshman finished at 4-under par for the tournament. She finished the three-round tournament with 14 birdies.
Stormo's win was a display of the team's depth. In addition to Stormo, the Flashes have three top 60 nationally ranked golfers in No. 11 Pimnipa Panthong, No. 59 Michaela Finn and No. 60 Wad Phaewchimplee. That depth has become a Kent State staple, as the Flashes have claimed 13 individual wins from seven different competitors over the last four years.
