
No. 12 Men's Golf Finishes Second in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 12 Kent State University men's golf team finished the regular season Sunday with a second-place showing at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate at Ohio State's Scarlett Course.
The Golden Flashes finished the tournament at 22-over par 874 (294-285-295). The Flashes hung tough with top-10 ranked Illinois, who won at 12-over par 864. The rest of the field was at least 25 strokes back from Kent State, with Iowa claiming third at 47-over par.
Reigning MAC Golfer of the Week Bjarki Petursson made a run at the title, and finished second at 3-over par 216. Petursson wrapped up the tournament with his best round of the weekend at 1-under par 71, with five birdies on the day. He finished five strokes back from individual medalist Dylan Meyer from Illinois, who entered the tournament ranked 10th in the nation.
Two strokes back from Petursson in third place was Ian Holt. Holt posted a three-round score of 5-over par 218, capped off with an even par round Sunday. Three Flashes finished in the top-10, with senior Josh Whalen tying for ninth place. He carded a 76 in round three to put him at 9-over par 222 for the weekend.
Gisli Sveinbergsson finished tied for 14th overall at 11-over par 224. He posted a 76 in round three, clinching his fifth top-15 finish of the spring. Rounding out the lineup was Chase Johnson in a tie for 22nd. Johnson finished the tournament at 13-over par 226.
Kent State will defend its title at the MAC Championship, beginning April 28 at the Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
