
Track and Field on the Road for Crimson Tide Invitational

Kent State's track and field program is heading south once again as they make their way to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the Crimson Tide Invitational, April 7-8. The two-day meet hosted by the University of Alabama at Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium gets underway with the women's hammer throw at 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.

LAST TIME OUT
Last week, Kent State sent its pole vaulters and multi-event athletes to the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, while the remainder of the team was in Oxford, Ohio at the Miami Duals.
At the Texas Relays, TJ Lawson captured fourth in the decathlon with 7,497 points, the second-highest total in Kent State history. For his efforts, Lawson was named Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week.
In the women's pole vault, Sam Tollerud and Morgan finished tied for 10th and tied for 12th, respectively, as they were both able to clear a mark of 3.91m (12' 10"). On the men's side, Christian Champen finished tied for 12th with a mark of 5.06m (16' 7.25").
Chelsea Laury scored a career-best 4,966 points in the heptathlon to finish 17th overall. Laury's total is the fifth-most in Kent State history.
At the Miami Duals, the women's 4x100m relay team of Kayla Seymour, Jorian Ordway, Mi'Angel Daniels and Bennisha Nunn was victorious with a time of 46.72 seconds. Ordway also finished runner-up in the 400m dash at 56.91 seconds.
Rebecca Leppelmeier also secured a victory for the Golden Flashes, taking the discus title with a mark of 48.60m (159'5"). Leppelmeier also brought home eighth-place in the hammer, finishing behind Gabrielle Figueroa who took second with a mark of 59.52m (195' 3").
RANKING THE GOLDEN FLASHES
• Lawson's decathlon score of 7,497 points ranks fourth in the nation and first in the NCAA East Region and the MAC.
• Chelsea Laury's heptathlon score of 4,966 points ranks third in the MAC and sixth in the NCAA East Region.
• Figueroa currently leads the MAC in the women's hammer throw at 59.52m (195' 3").
• In the men's 110m hurdles, Richard Dahome leads the conference with a time of 14.82 seconds. Lawson is second behind Dahome at 14.88.
• David Paliscak's shot put mark of 17.50m (57' 5") ranks second in the conference.

The Golden Flashes will stay close to home next weekend as the they travel to rival Akron for the Northeast Ohio Quad, April 14-15.
