Field Hockey Shuts Out St. Louis, 2-0

ST. LOUIS – The Kent State University field hockey team (4-7) ended its long road trip with a victory, defeating the St. Louis Billikens (3-6), 2-0, Sunday.
Kent State ends an 11 match road trip, with the Golden Flashes on the road while a new field turf is installed at Murphy-Mellis Field. Kent State will make its 2017 home debut Friday, Sept. 29 against Miami at 1 p.m.
On Sunday, Kent State scored twice in the second half to secure the shutout. The first goal was scored by Alison Harmatz in the 41st minute. An attack from Jessica Nesbitt set up the goal, when a hard shot was saved by the Billikens. Harmatz took the rebound and fired away, putting the Flashes ahead. It was Harmatz's second goal of the season. It was Nesbitt's team-best sixth assist.
Kent State played most of the half up a goal, but posted an insurance goal on the board in the 68th minute. Clara Rodriguez Seto scored her first collegiate goal, connecting on a pass from fellow freshman Madeline Osgarby.
Although Kent State's goals came in the second half, they controlled the pace of the game throughout. Kent State forced six saves in the first half, with the Billikens finishing the day with eight.
Overall, Kent State outshot St. Louis, 23-9. St. Louis could only fire off three shots in the second half against the Flash defense. Azure Fernsler started in goal again, recording three saves.
The Flashes return to Mid-American Conference play for five of their next six matches. Four of the remaining matches will be played on the new turf at Murphy-Mellis Field.
