Field Hockey Returns Home for Weekend Matches

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State University field hockey team will make its home debut this weekend, competing against the Miami Redhawks Friday and the No. 4 Penn State Nittany Lions Sunday.
The Flashes end an 11-match road trip that allowed renovations to be finished at Murphy-Mellis Field. Kent State will make their debut on a brand new field turf Friday against Miami at 1 p.m. On Sunday, Kent State will take on a national title contender in Penn State at noon. Streaming video and live stats will be available for both matches.
Kent State returns to campus following a shutout win to end its road trip at St. Louis, 2-0. On Sunday, Kent State scored twice in the second half to secure the shutout. The first goal was scored by Alison Harmatz in the 41st minute. Clara Rodriguez Seto would score again in the 68th minute, while Azure Fernsler picked up the shutout in goal.
Friday's match is a return to MAC play, with the Flashes entering the weekend 1-0 in the league. Kent State's first match came at Appalachian State, resulting in a shutout victory, 3-0. Miami is the league's only 2-0 team, with wins over App State and Ohio. The Redhawks have outscored conference opponents, 9-2.
The Redhawks return to Murphy-Mellis Field for the first time since the MAC Championship in 2016. Kent State came out ahead in that match, 4-0. The two teams had previously played in Oxford, with Kent State winning in overtime, 2-1. Kent State has won seven straight matches against Miami, despite the two teams meeting in the MAC Tournament in three straight seasons, the last two taking place in the championship match.
Penn State will present one of the toughest matches of the season for Kent State, entering the weekend in the national coaches poll top-5. The Nittany Lions are 8-2 on the season, including a seven match winning streak to begin the season. Penn State will open up the weekend on Friday against Michigan State
