Field Hockey Tops Ohio State in Columbus, 2-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Kent State University field hockey team left Columbus with a strong result, defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes, 2-1, on the road Tuesday.
The Golden Flashes put themselves on the board early and won with a late game-winner. The first goal was scored by Jamie Fries in the 20th minute. Jessica Nesbitt set up the play for Kent State's second shot of the match, as her senior teammate scored for the first time this season. Ohio State reacted quickly, evening the match in the 26th minute on a goal from Maddy Humphry.
The second half was played tight, with neither team having their way on offense. Kent State faced two, corners and two shots from Ohio State over the first 30 minutes of the half, neither of which resulted in success for the home team.
In the 66th minute, Kent State capitalized on a series of corners and scored on the first shot of the second half. Clara Rodriguez Setó and Nesbitt set up an Ines Delpech shot on a corner, who scored for the second time in the last three days. Following the All-American's late game heroics, Kent State fought off four attacks in the last four minutes and kept Ohio State off the board again.
Kent State only needed three shots to take a victory over Ohio State, while the home team finished with 13. Freshman Kylie LeBlanc played all 70 minutes, recording five saves. Her lone save of the second half came in the 70th minute, sealing the win for the Flashes.
Kent State will move on to Evanston, Ill. To face Temple and Northwestern Sept. 9-10.
