KENT, Ohio – The Kent State University field hockey team (2-3) is headed to Evanston, Illinois for a pair of nonconference matches Sept. 9-10.
The Golden Flashes will take on Temple (0-3) Saturday at 2 p.m. EST/1 p.m. CST in a neutral site match, and No. 14 Northwestern (2-3) Sunday at 1:30 p.m. EST/12:30 p.m. CST. Live stats will be available for both matches.
The Flashes have won two of their last three matches and look to enter Mid-American Conference play with momentum on their side. Kent State's recent trip to Columbus placed them against two nationally ranked teams in No. 9 Louisville and No. 23 Ohio State. After a tough loss to a top-10 opponent, Kent State took a victory against the Buckeyes, 2-1.
The win gave head coach Kathleen Wiler her 126th victory, tying for the most ever in Kent State history. Her team will be competing for the outright record this weekend.
The Flashes will also continue to battle on the road, as they are in the middle of a grueling 11 match road trip. Kent State is slated to travel to four more states before making its home debut on a brand new turf at Murphy-Mellis Field on Sept. 29 against Miami.
Kent State's first opponent, Temple, is looking for its first win of 2017. They have faced a tough schedule, having taken their most recent loss to No. 7 Penn State. They will face hosts Northwestern Friday at 2 p.m. EST to start the weekend.
Northwestern is ranked 14th in the country, but have routinely faced teams ranked above them. The Wildcats have lost by a goal to both No. 8 Boston College and No. 1 Duke. Goalkeeper Anni Kalfas has been lights out for Northwestern, with a saves percentage of .848.
