JONESBOROUGH, Tenn.- The Kent State University men's golf team sits in second place after closing within two strokes of the lead through two rounds of play at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate.

Led by a 6-under par score by sophomore Josh Gilkison, the Flashes (-25) carded a second round score of 275 closing within two strokes of the tournament leader East Tennessee State.

Gilkison would card a team-low 66 on Saturday with a bogey-free round of golf. Gilkison started the day off with a par on his first hole, followed by three-straight birdies. The sophomore closed out the day with birdies on the par-4 15^th and 16^th holes, bringing his daily total to six birdies. The round helped Gilkison climb 30-spots up the leaderboard to a tie for 30^th at 2-under 142.

Continuing his first round success, senior Bjarki Petursson shot a 3-under par 69 score, placing him in a tie for third at 9-under 135. Petursson birdied his first hole of the day, following a birdie on the par-5 8^th hole. With one bogey on the scorecard, Petursson quickly wiped it away with a birdie on the 14^th hole before closing out the round with a birdie on the par-4 18^th hole.

Joining Petursson in a tie for third is teammate Will Kurtz who played a bogey-free round of golf after carding a 4-under par 68. Kutz finished the round with four birdies, bringing his tournament total to 10.

Johnny Travale scored an even-par score and sits tied for 15^th at 5-under par 139. Travale went 16 holes for par or less with birdies on holes 2 and 18.

Rounding out the Flashes' lineup is senior Gisli Sveinbergsson. He the senior carded a 2-over par 74 and is tied for 66^th at 6-over par.

Chris Doody, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 48^th after an even-par round. For the tournament he is 2-over 146.

Kent State will tee off in the final group of the day with East Tennessee State (-27) and Tennessee (-21). The first tee time of the day is scheduled for 10:10 a.m. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
