Field Hockey Set to Face Central Michigan in Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Game

KENT, Ohio –The Kent State University field hockey team (3-9, 1-1 MAC) is set to face Central Michigan (1-12, 0-3 MAC) at Murphy-Mellis Field in a Mid-American Conference matchup on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 11:00 a.m.
Sunday's contest against Central Michigan will be dedicated to Congenital Heart Defect Awareness, as the team will be wearing special t-shirts in its warmup prior to the game to help raise awareness for the condition. The team has selected to direct support to the organization, Heartfest, which provides funding for dedicated research on the cause and prevention of Congenital Heart Defects and supports initiatives that extend or enrich the lives of children born with a Congenital Heart Defect. THE GOLDEN FLASHES
The Flashes enter the game 1-1 in conference play following a thrilling double overtime victory at Longwood University on Sunday. Senior Jessica Apelt exploded offensively, scoring the team's 2 goals in regulation, her third and fourth of the season. Sophomore Emma Bressler notched the game-winner in the 86th minute with Apelt on the assist. Apelt was named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her performance, announced Tuesday afternoon.
On the season, the Flashes are led offensively by sophomore Clara Rodriguez Setó with 5 goals and 4 assists. Setó is also instrumental to the Kent State defense, recording 3 defensive saves on the season.
CENTRAL MICHIGAN
Midway through the season, the Chippewas are 1-12 and 0-3 in MAC play with the lone victory coming from a 1-0 shutout against Saint Louis Aug. 26. Last time out, Central Michigan fell to Miami, 5-0 on Sept. 28.
The Chippewas have netted 7 goals on the season and are led offensively by Samantha Glapinksi with 2 goals on 10 shots. In the net, goalkeeper Lily Amadio has compiled 75 saves in 748 minutes of play.
The last time the teams met a year ago in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, the Flashes walked away with a 7-0 victory. Seniors Jessica Apelt and Helen Harper notched 2 goals apiece and junior Laila Richter added a goal for the Flashes.
