
Flashes Have Record-Setting Rounds at Illini Invitational

MEDINAH, Ill.- The Kent State University women's golf team put together a season-low score Monday afternoon, carding the No. 2 and No. 3 all-time team scores in program history to shoot a combined 13-under par score at the opening day of the Illini Women's Invitational.
The Flashes opened with a round of 11-under 277 and followed up with a 2-under par 286 score.
The day was built on 29 birdies and 130 pars, as two of the five Flashes set or tied career bests for 18 holes. Senior Michaela Finn sits in first place with an 8-under 136 score, good for a career-low 36 hole total. Finn completed the day with 11 birdies starting the opening round with three-straight. The sophomore finished the second round with a 3-under par score and went 17 holes for par or less.
Also adding her name to the record book was junior Karoline Stormo who shot a career-best 6-under par 66 first round. Stormo opened the day going 17 holes for par or less with seven birdies. The sophomore sits in a tie for seventh at 5-under par.
Sophomore Kory Nielsen is tied for 29th at 1-over. Nielsen opened the tournament with a flawless first round of bogey-free golf and finished the first round at 1-under. Nielsen finished the day at 2-over par.
Junior Pimnipa Panthong is tied for 40th with a 2-over par 146 score. Panthong shot an opening round score of 75 and improved in round two with a 1-under par score. Rounding out the Flashes' lineup is junior Marissa Kirkwood with a 36-hole score of 2-over 146. Kirkwood had two rounds of 73 and finished the day with five birdies.
Sophomore Chloe Salort is tied for 47th after carding a 1-under 71 in the opening round and a 4-over second round score putting her at 3-over over 36 holes. Julia Goodson is tied for 54th at 4-over after carding rounds of 76 and 72. Thitapa Pakdeesettak, who made her first collegiate appearance, is tied for 80th after rounds of 75 and 79.
Purdue leads the tournament by six strokes over the Flashes, while tournament host Illinois is third at 11-under par.
The final round begins Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. ET as the Flashes will open the shotgun start on Holes No. 1-3 with Purdue and Illinois.
