OXFORD, Ohio โ Kent State was unable to take capitalize on a set point opportunity in the opening set of a 3-0 (26-28, 19-25, 20-25) loss to Eastern Michigan in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Volleyball Championship on Thursday afternoon.
The Golden Flashes (13-18) struggled to find an offensive rhythm and posted just 30 kills and a .089 hitting percentage. Freshmen Kathryn Ellison and Melissa Kolurbasi led the way with eight kills apiece.
Freshman Erin Gardner tallied a team-high 16 digs to move into fourth on Kent State's single-season digs list with a freshman record of 578. Gardner's average of 5.07 digs per set ranks sixth in program history, which is also a freshman record.
Sophomore Kaeleigh Stang and redshirt freshman Alex Haffner added 11 digs each. Haffner totaled 16 assists for her team-high 12th double-double. Junior Myla King led the Flashes with three total blocks.
