Scouting the Flashes
Kent State (0-2) competed well in its opening weekend trip to Tobacco Road. The Flashes led North Carolina at the final media timeout on Friday and won each of the final two periods against No. 17 NC State on Sunday. Redshirt junior Megan Carter (19.5 ppg) led all scorers with 22 points and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds against the Wolfpack. Kent State's talented freshman class accounted for 58 of the team's 121 points on the trip. Point guard Asiah Dingle (11.0 ppg) and forward Lindsey Thall (8.5 ppg) both reached double-figures on Sunday. Guard Hannah Young added 8.0 points per game off the bench.
Although the Flashes did shoot the ball particularly well in either game, they were able to compete by keeping the rebounding and turnover margins close. Kent State was only outrebounded by 4.5 per game by their much taller opponents. It was a team effort on the glass with Merissa Barber-Smith (6.5 rpg), Megan Carter (5.5 rpg), Alexa Golden (4.5 rpg) and Lindsey Thall (4.5 rpg) all pulling down at least nine boards. The Flashes and their opponents both committed 31 turnovers with the Flashes leading 16-13 in steals.
Scouting Northern Kentucky
Picked to finish sixth in the Horizon League, Northern Kentucky beat Division II Alderson Broaddus, 73-32, in its lone regular season contest. The Norse led by as many as 48 in the wire-to-wire victory. Guard Molly Glick scored a team-high 13 points and point guard Ally Niece added 10 points, as NKU shot 21-for-34 on two-point attempts. A Preseason All-Horizon League First Team selection, Glick average 12.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while making a team-high 64 three-pointers last season. Forward Kailey Coffey earned Horizon League All-Freshman Team honors with averages of 9.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in 2017-18.
TV / Radio
Jacob Pavilack will be on the call for both games on the Golden Flashes iHeartRadio channel. Saturday's game will be streamed on ESPN3 and Sunday's game on ESPN+. Dave Wilson and Brad Hamilton call the action on both broadcasts.
