Carey and Reese Earn Final MAC Track and Field Athlete of the Week Honors of Indoor Season

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Kent State track and field program concluded the indoor regular season with a pair of student-athletes earning Mid-American Conference Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors. Senior Cayla Carey and redshirt senior Riak Reese were honored following standout performances over the weekend.
Carey was named Women's Field Athlete of the Week after winning the long jump at Saturday's Kent State Tune Up. Carey soared 20'-3.50" on her third attempt to tie the best mark in the MAC this season and move into 17th in the national rankings. Her mark ranks third in program history. Carey won the competition by more than a foot and all four of her successful attempts would have been good enough to capture first place.
Reese was named Men's Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 200-meter dash at Michigan's Silverston Invitational. Reese remained undefeated in event finals this season by clocking a time of 21.11, which gave him a winning margin of 0.56 seconds. He now owns the MAC's five fastest 200-meter dash times this year and his personal-best time of 20.99 gives him a No. 28 national ranking. This is the fourth time the Gahanna, Ohio native has been honored by the conference, which is more than any other track and field athlete in the MAC during the 2017-18 indoor season.
Kent State will compete at the 2018 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 23-24 in Bowling Green, Ohio.
