
Flashes Open The Hootie at Bulls Bay Sunday

KENT,Ohio- The Kent State men's golf team heads south for the third time in three weeks, competing at the 14th annual 2018 Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, March 25-27in the Lowcountry. The 54-hole, three-day event is located at the Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C.
The 54-hole event will feature 18 holes off No. 1 and No. 10 tees each day starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday, 9 a.m. on Monday and 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
The Golden Flashes are making their first-ever appearance in the tournament. Competing this weekend for the Golden Flashes will be senior Chase Johnson (Barberton, Ohio), senior Ian Holt (Stow, Ohio), along with juniors Gisli Sveinbergsson (Hafnarfjordur, Iceland) and Bjarki Petursson (Borgarnes, Iceland) and freshman Will Kurtz (Hudson, Ohio).
It's a solid 15-team field this week featuring eight teams, including No.34 Kent State, ranked in the top-50 of the latest Golfstat team rankings. No. 9 Auburn headlines the group as the only top-25 team in the field. No. 31 Kentucky, No. 41 Ole Miss and No. 43 Missouri will be representing the SEC alongside the defending Hootie at Bulls Bay champion, No. 37 South Carolina.
The rest of the field includes Georgia State, College of Charleston, Eastern Kentucky, Georgia Southern, Iowa State, Louisville, NC State, Wisconsin, and Wofford.
The Golden Flashes last competed at the General Hackler, March 10-11, at Myrtle Beach, S.C., placing sixth among 15 teams. Kent State shot 10-over, while No.8 Georgia won the tournament at 16-under. Holt birdied on five-consecutive holes to move him up the ranks on the final day and finished 1-under, good for 15th.
The Golden Flashes return to action April 7-8 for the Aggie Invitational in Bryan, Texas.
