
No. 30 Men’s Golf Takes on Nation’s Best in Texas

KENT, Ohio- The No. 30 Kent State men's golf team will compete against one of the toughest fields in the nation this weekend in the Aggie Invitational at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas.
The tournament begins with 36 holes on Saturday on the par-72, 7,146-yard course and concludes with a final round on Sunday. Action on both days will begin at 7:30 a.m. CST.
The Golden Flashes are making their 10th appearance in the tournament. Competing this weekend for the Flashes will be seniors Chase Johnson (Barberton, Ohio) and Ian Holt (Stow, Ohio), along with juniors Gisli Sveinbergsson (Hafnarfjordur, Iceland) and Bjarki Petursson (Borgarnes, Iceland), and freshman Josh Gilkison (Springboro, Ohio).
The 2018 Aggie Invitational's loaded field consists of 14 teams, six of which are ranked in the top 10. No. 1 Oklahoma State headlines the group followed by tournament host No. 2 Texas A&M, No.4 Texas Tech, No.7 Baylor, and No. 8 Alabama. In addition to the top-ranked teams, the individual field includes 16 players who are ranked among the top 50 golfers in the country, including Kent State's 35th ranked Holt.
The rest of the field includes Denver, Houston, No. 12 LSU, Michigan, New Mexico, New Mexico State, and North Texas.
The squad last competed at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, March 25-27, at Charleston, S.C., placing second among 15 teams. Kent State shot 22-under, while Ole Miss earned the team crown at 23-under. Holt placed third at 10-under and finished the tournament with 16 birdies.
