BUFFALO, N.Y. – Riak Reese won three events on Saturday and was named Most Outstanding Track Performer at the 2018 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Kent State posted 153 points, their most since 2014, for a third-place finish.
Reese swept the sprints and ran the final leg for the Golden Flashes' 4x100 relay team that took first. After running the top time during prelims in both events on Thursday and Friday, Reese ran even faster to secure the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash titles. He clocked a 10.16 in the 100m and a 20.51 in the 200m. Reese teamed with Brandon Harris, JJ Johnson and Korie Davis II to run the sixth-fastest time in school history and win the 4x100 relay with a time of 40.19.
While Reese was leaving the competition in the dust on the track, individual titles from Trevor Detillion (discus throw) and Craig Stevens, Jr. (triple jump) headlined Kent State's dominant day in the three remaining field events. The Flashes totaled five top-five finishes for 51 points in the discus, high jump and triple jump, which was twice as many points as any other school.
The Flashes' 22 points in the triple jump were tied for the most any school scored in a single event. Stevens, Jr. won the event for the second year in a row with jump of 51'-8.5". Anthony Milliner leaped 48'-8.75" to finish as the runner-up and JJ Johnson placed fifth with a personal-best jump of 48'-0.75". In addition to all-conference honors in the event, Milliner was named MAC Field Co-Freshman of the Year.
Detillion won the discus with a top mark of 174'-3", which was nearly 10 feet further than the next-closest competitor. Douglas Moorer, Jr. took fourth with a throw of 159'-6".
Brad Jones and DJ Ohlson went 2-3 in the high jump. Jones cleared 6'-10.25" while Ohlson posted a season-best height of 6'-9".
Grzegorz Kunc earned 11 points on the track. Kunc finished third in the 1,500-meter run (3:54.07) and fourth in the 800-meter run (1:53.54).
Korie Davis II clocked a personal-best 47.58 to place fourth in the 400-meter dash.
Dairius Ragland placed seventh in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.53.
Assistant coach Michael Schober was named Co-Assistant Coach of the Year. Schober is responsible for the Flashes' sprints, mid-distance, hurdles and relay events.
