RAVENNA, Ohioย โ The Kent State volleyball team took a break from the practice court on Wednesday and spent the morning volunteering at the Habitat for Humanity of Portage County warehouse.
Student-athletes and coaches assisted with framing out walls, doorways and wall headers for a four-bedroom house that is in the early stages of being built.
"Volunteering this morning was eye-opening to see the impact we can make when we work as a team," said sophomore Kaeleigh Stang. "It was fun to learn and apply new skills like hammering and sawing, and then see the finished wall and doorway after just a few hours."
After completing work in the warehouse, the team visited the site where the new home is being built. The project is expected to be finished in 3-4 months, at which time the family will be able to move into its new home.
Under the leadership of head coach Don Gromala, the Golden Flashes have been dedicated to making an impact in the Kent community and surrounding areas. The volleyball program has built a relationship with the Habitat for Humanity of Portage County and has volunteered with the non-profit organization three of the past four years.
